Bruce N. Sachar – of Lynn, entered into rest on Monday, April 15, 2019 at the age of 85. Beloved friend and companion of Ruth Ross. Devoted father of Matthew Sachar and his wife Colleen, Stephanie Bartram and her husband Paul and Michael Sachar. Cherished grandfather of Colton and Cameron Sachar and Jennifer and Jackson Bartram. The loving brother of Bernice Sommerstein, the late Abbott Sachar, the late George Sachar and the late June Salinsky. Dear son of the late Morris and Lena (Singer) Sachar. Bruce will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.
Bruce was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, class of 51’ and graduated from UMass Amherst in 1955. He proudly served his country as 1st Lieutenant Platoon Leader with 7th Tank Battalion of the Third Armored Division. He graduated from Boston College Law School in 1960 where he was editor of the Law Review.
Bruce went on to practice law for almost fifty years in the City of Lynn. Among his many professional accomplishments Bruce was responsible for implementing the Alternative Dispute Resolutions Programs in existence at the Essex County Court Systems. He also conceived and organized the first “computer – connection”, allowing lawyers from their offices to access records at Essex Registry of Deeds.
Bruce was a selectman for the Town of Swampscott in the early 80’s and past president of Greater Lynn and Essex County Bar Associations. He was the 2007 recipient of the esteemed Ronan Family Jurisprudence Award and the 2004 recipient of the John Jennings Advocacy Award, which is the most prestigious and coveted award given, infrequently, by the Greater Lynn Bar Association.
Bruce was a devoted and loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed his time at Gannon Golf Course with his brothers, son and many friends. He was also an avid sports fan and he especially loved coaching Swampscott Little League. His love of sports continued as he went on to watch his grandchildren play youth sports, which was the highlight of his life. Bruce will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
