Paul Arkin of Winthrop, late of Salem, passed away on May 26th at the age of 85 due to complications from Covid-19. He was the loving brother of Susan and Harold Smith and devoted son of the late Florence and Samuel Arkin. He was also a dear uncle to Deborah Smith, Michael and Sue Smith, and Shayna and Aaron Smith.
Paul was intelligent, witty, and had a love for learning throughout his life. He was a graduate of Boston University and had a Masters Degree in Business. He taught history in the Winthrop Schools. He also worked in the family business for many years and at Ann and Hope until his retirement. He was an avid fan of all of the New England sports teams and enjoyed watching various events. He was also a member of Temple Tifereth Israel in Winthrop. He especially enjoyed the activities at his residence and loved all of the volunteers who came to visit. A special thank you to Mel Mael for his visits, which were much appreciated. The family would also like to thank the staff at his long-term residence for their loving care of Paul during the past eleven years
Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Funeral services will be private due to the coronavirus and there will be no Shiva due to Shavuot.
