Clarice Carolyn Rempel was born to Maxine and Wallace Rempel in Salem, Oregon where she graduated from Salem High School in 1952. During these years she enjoyed staying summers with family and friends on a hop ranch east of Salem, riding her motorbike and playing saxophone in the high school marching band.
Following high school Clarice enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving from 1952 to 1957. She worked in naval communications and played on the women’s softball team. While in the Service, she met and married William Stewart, also in the U.S. Navy. Clarice and William had two daughters together, Janet and Susan, while stationed in London, England. Clarice discharged from the Navy in 1957 to raise her daughters, returning to Salem, Oregon. William Stewart passed away in 1979.
After her tour of military service, Clarice worked as a clerk for the Oregon State Employment Division until her retirement in 1993. During her retirement years she enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with family. In 2004 she was baptized and became a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She loved her church family and especially enjoyed listening to the choir.
Clarice is survived by her brother Gerald Rempel and half-brother Robert Rempel of Salem, half-sister Carol (Rempel) Bradley of California, daughters Janet Shearer (Timothy) of Jefferson and Susan Keith (Rob) of Salem, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held on Sat. Sept. 8 at 1:00 PM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Salem Oregon.
