May 29, 1933 – December 29, 2019
Dexter Elswick, 86, of Salisbury passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Genesis Nursing Home. He was born May 29, 1933 in Tazewell County, VA, the son of the late Charles William Elswick and Ori Orvil Price. At 22, he relocated to the Eastern Shore of Maryland with his young family. It was the fifties and he was soon able to start his own construction company. He worked to build the rest of his life. He loved blue grass music and was a master on the banjo. He also loved hunting, fishing, and gardening, and could fix almost anything. One of his last pleasures was viewing wildlife in his yard and the cats at his home. The happiest years of his life were spent raising his children. He will be remembered as a hardworking, strong-willed, and generous man by family and friends. He is survived by two sons, Burley W. Slate (Marlene) and Bobby J. Elswick (Rhonda); four grandchildren, Wayne B. Slate (Sherry), Bruce D. Slate, Robert J. Elswick (Marty), and Brittany N. Altekruse (Michael); six great-grandchildren; a brother, Charlie Roger Elswick (Elaine); and two sisters, Gertrude Richardson (Bob) and Faye Brown. He is also survived by a longtime companion, Rita Farmer and her children. Mr. Elswick was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Isaac B. Elswick, and his great-grandson, Layton Slate. Mr. Elswick donated his body to the Anatomical Board of Maryland and a memorial service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 2pm at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Elswick's passing. He & my Dad (Bill Holt) used to play music together and we always had the BEST time visiting their home - always much laughter & warmth! Mr. Elswick's sense of humor is one of my best memories that I will always treasure! My thoughts & prayers go out to the Family.
