Evelyn P. “Patsy” Shockley, 87, of Pittsville gained her wings as was called home on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Delmar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born July 23, 1933 in Millsboro, DE she was the daughter of the late Paul and Beatrice Lynch.
The most important thing to her was spending time with her family and loved ones. She married her lifelong sweetheart, Dale, in 1949 and spent most of her years in Pittsville raising not only her family but also helping to raise over 80 other children as well, all who called her MomMom Pat. Together they spent many years camping and being at the beach. She was a member of Gumboro Wesleyan and Pittsville Church for many years, and was a member of the choir and a church trio who brought the gospel to many all around. She enjoyed music especially Bluegrass and Gospel and played along on the piano and the guitar. Loved by so many she will be greatly missed but will be forever remembered. Her contagious smile could be seen from miles away as she never met a stranger and had enough compassion to turn frowns upside down.
She is survived by three children, Donald Shockley and his wife Debbie, Dorothy Shockley, and Debbie Jones; four grandchildren, Kim Shockley, Dana Sandford and her husband David, Jodi Lemon, and Ashley Mason and her husband Mike; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Toby Lynch; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Dale Shockley in 2009; three brothers, Pete, Bill, and Roland Lynch; and two sisters, Tootsie Dorman and Lou White; and son-in-law Rick Jones.
A public graveside funeral service will be held Sunday at 12pm at Farlow Cemetery in Pittsville for friends and family to express their condolences. Rev. Paul Sherwood will officiate.
