Benita Turpin was born on April 1, 1975, and passed from this Earth peacefully Thursday evening, April 22, 2021, in her home surrounded by loved ones. She was 46 years old. For many years she was wheelchair bound with physical limitations which included a neuro-degenerative disease, and now she’s dancing in heaven with her older sister, Nicci. She was a faithful and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life and trusted in the Lord.
She loved to dance and was an excellent student. She worked at Rafael’s Mexican Restaurant for over 8 years. It got her through high school (Hillcrest High) and college. She loved her job there and the lifelong friends she made with her coworkers. In 1998 she graduated from the University of Utah’s College of Business with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Upon graduation she accepted a position with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as an accountant for the Seminaries and Institutes. She loved the outdoors and would hike and backpack and fish with delight. She was generous with her income almost to a fault as she sought to assist family members. She was always warm, kind-hearted and interested in family, friends, and anyone she met and with whom she associated.
Benita is survived by her mother, Debby; sister, Tarina Del Toro; bother Trevor (Jimena); nieces and nephews, Kelsey Kitchen, Eleecia Turpin, Carter Del Toro, Damien Del Toro, and Luana, Leon, and Nikolas Turpin; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her father, R. Scott; sister, Nicci Kitchen; brother in law Dustin Kitchen; and her loving grandparents.
Benita loved her employment and those with whom she worked and was very grateful for the kindnesses they all provided her. Leaving active employment was one of the most difficult things Benita had to do. All at her work were attentive, concerned, and compassionate during her illness and often took the time and occasion to express their love for her. Special gratitude is expressed to Rachel Reynolds, Benita’s hospice nurse, for her selfless, dedicated and loving care during Benita’s final six years of life. She was faithful and always cheerfully available, and supportive.
A graveside service will be held at a date yet to be determined, at which time Benita will be buried in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
