Dora was born on October 16, 1936 to Vivian Anderson and Allan Larsen in Provo, Utah. She graduated from South High School. Dora graduated from the University of Utah in Economics with honors, including Phi Beta Kappa. While attending college, she met Harry Lakin while she was working in the Engineering Department where he was a student. In 1958 they married in the Salt Lake Temple. After graduation, they moved to Southern California. While in California, they had three children, Christopher, Pamela and Diane. They later returned to Utah and lived in Holladay.
Dora enjoyed sewing, embroidery, calligraphy, and her bowling league. She served in several church callings including Relief Society and Primary President as well as Salt Lake Temple worker with Harry. She was also active in the PTA and served as the Symphony Guild President. Dora and Harry went to the Shakespeare Festival with friends every year and traveled all over the world.
Dora is survived by her daughters: Pamela (John) Webb and Diane (Jonathan) Cannon, grandsons: Christopher (Jessica) Webb, Allan (Staci) Cannon, Zachary Cannon, Ethan Cannon and Kyle Cannon, and great-grandchildren: Austin and Kaylee Cannon. Dora was preceded in death by her husband, parents and son Christopher.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 1, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive. There will be a graveside service on Friday, September 2, at 10:00 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive. In lieu of flowers, Pam and Diane request that donations be made to Primary Children’s Hospital.
