On Thursday, September 20, 2018, Gene Foulke, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away at the age of 93 years. Born on June 30, 1925, to Faye Delores Black (1897-1988) and Charles Edward Foulke (1898-1989), he grew up in Carlisle, Iowa. He had one brother, Charles Robert Foulke (1930-2017). After graduating from Carlisle High School in 1942, Gene attended Iowa State University for one year before enlisting in the Army in January 1944. His foreign service occurred from December 1944 to September 1945, and he was honorably discharged with distinction in April 1946.
Gene attended the University of Iowa and received a degree in chemical engineering in 1950. His career included working for Gulf Interstate Engineering in Houston, Texas before joining Northwest Pipeline Corp. in Salt Lake City as Vice President of operations and engineering in 1974. He supervised a 700-man work force and headed all operations, engineering, construction and liquid products marketing. He also enjoyed exploring and developing a variety of businesses throughout his lifetime,
Gene met his wife, Wanda, who was also working at Columbia Gulf Interstate, in 1967. They were married in 1968. Their son, Scott, was born in 1969. Gene was also a caring step-father to Wanda’s daughters, Julie and Cherie.
Gene enjoyed many and various activities with his family. His love for the outdoors included skiing and hiking in the Wasatch Mountains, rafting on the Salmon River, and camping throughout the Utah and Idaho. He loved being with friends and family, engaging in lively discussions on many topics as his interests were broad. He and his son Scott enjoyed watching Jazz games together, especially over his last few years. Gene enjoyed visiting family in Oregon, Texas, and Iowa. He and Wanda enjoyed traveling together and had many adventures including France, Italy, Israel, Greece, and Mexico. In Israel, he renewed his baptism in the Jordan River. Gene was a devoted member of the Baptist Church, most recently attending the Risen Life Church.
Gene is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wanda; their son, Scott, daughter-in-law, Jen, and grandchildren, Ava and Ruby; step-daughter, Julie Osborne, son-in-law, Rick, granddaughter, Ashley Muncie-Jarvis, her husband, Nick, great-grandson, Max; and grandson, Cody Osborne; and step-daughter, Cheryl Woolley, son-in-law, Joe, grandson, Jay Woolley, his wife, Melissa, great-granddaughter, Kora; and granddaughter Angela Salzmann, and her husband, Travis.
There will be a viewing on September 28th at 1:30PM at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary with a Graveside Service to follow at 2:30PM.
