Janis was born to Adolph Locher and Myrtle Henriksen on Aug. 26, 1938 in Salt Lake City. Janis graduated from the University of Utah and taught school for 36 years. She was a beloved teacher who shared her love of learning, kindness, and cheerful demeanor with thousands of students.
Janis served faithfully as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her beliefs kept her strong and helped to lighten the burden of her many health issues later in her life. This same faith brought her lifelong comfort and joy from the fellowship and love she received from the many brothers and sisters in her ward who shared their time with her. She will be remembered for her humor, courage, and love of family.
Janis is survived by her sister, Sharen Ainsworth of Sandy, UT; her brother, Craig, and his wife Diane Edman Locher of Cottonwood Heights, UT; and her brother, Loren, and his wife Analiza Obong Locher who reside in Mesa, AZ. Janis is preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
