ORETA JOANNE STRONG YOUNG
July 10, 1929 – December 20, 2017
Oreta Joanne Strong Young, age 88, passed away December 20, 2017 surrounded by her earthly family. She was then reunited with her sweetheart, Newell D. Young; daughter, Peggy; son, Scott; and great-grandson, Lukas—all who welcomed her Home for Christmas. Joanne was born July 10, 1929 in SLC to Elias John and Alice Oreta Thurgood Strong. She graduated from South High School in 1946. She and her sweetheart, Newell, were married on April 12, 1948 and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on January 26, 1950. They were able to celebrate 68 years of marriage together. They were an example of love and commitment to each other and their family throughout their years together. Her family has been blessed by her love and concern for each of them. Joanne is survived by her son, Craig (Le); daughter, Pamela (Marvin) Wagner; son-in-law, Brent Baker; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sisters and their husbands: Shirley (Alden) Wardell, Carole (Lee) Heugly, and Claudia (Manuel) Domingo. She enjoyed making her home and yard look like a piece of heaven and spending time with her family. As a member of the LDS Church, she served in many Relief Society Presidencies and various callings and was always a dedicated Visiting Teacher. A viewing will be held from 9:00 am to 10:45 am with funeral services following at 11:00 am, on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at the Imperial LDS Ward building, 2738 So. Filmore Street (1540 East).
