Ralf Lambert Pollei 1930 – 2021

Beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Ralf Lambert Pollei passed away at home on Sunday, January 10, 2021. Ralf Pollei was born on September 30, 1930 to Herman (Harry) Karl Pollei and Enid Lambert Pollei in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ralf was raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School. He enjoyed sports and played basketball and football at East High School. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Netherlands. He married Thelma Laree Mason in the Salt Lake Temple on July 1, 1953. Together, Ralf and Thelma raised a wonderful family of four children; Ann, Debra, Janice, and Kevin. Ralf was an iron worker by trade and was always recognized for his hard work, integrity, and skill. Fond memories of traditional gatherings at the Pollei home and at the Mount Aire cabin have blessed the lives of his family. His dedication to the gospel of Jesus Christ was complete where he served in many leadership callings including bishop’s counselor, bishop of the Wilford Ward, High Priest group leader and ward mission leader. He was a student of the gospel and always enjoyed discussing his studies. He had a wonderful sense of humor where people always felt comfortable in his presence. He was the first to shovel a walk, help with a repair, or listen to a person in need.

He is survived by his daughters and son, Ann (Sanford) Hamilton, Debra (Melton – deceased) Parry, Janice (John) Taylor, and Kevin (Stephanie) Pollei: 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, his brother, Richard Pollei and sister, Marianne Raymond. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Mason Pollei; sister, Bonnie Wilkinson; brother, Jon Pollei and son-in-law, Melton Parry.

A visitation will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, SLC, Utah, on Sunday, January 17, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. COVID precautions are requested. A private family service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the mortuary. The service will be available via link at www.facebook.com/wasatchlawnmemorial beginning at 11 a.m.

When we first moved to the neighborhood here in Millcreek Ralf was one of the first people to come and say hello to us. He and Thelma were some of our favorite people. I will miss his smile and cheerful attitude!

Ralf is my best buddy. As young boys we didn't need any other close friends because we had each other. We did everything together. About a year ago Ralf bought an e-bike and we started riding each week. We had some great rides and the time spent together was like old times. Once a week we would go to Sizzler for lunch and have a good visit. He was always bigger and stronger than me and we joked that he must of eaten more potatoes as a boy.
Boy I am going to miss my best buddy.
Richard (Dick) Pollei
