He was born July 18, 1935 in Big Lake, Texas to Pedro and Marcela Ortiz. He grew up in Big Lake and attended school in Reagan County. He entered the work force in 1953 and began working for Teledyne Exploration. He traveled the US and the world doodlebugging. His search for oil took him from Washington to Guatemala and back to Texas. He and trekked the Mayan ruins in the 50s and watched Mount St Helen erupt in the 80s. He retired from oil exploration after 34 years. He then began a new adventures working for Pool, Globe. Chuck Dozer, PeeWee Poyner, C&W, Basic Energy and Nabors. He retired at least one more time before he finally parked that water truck in 2013.
David was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. He was a member of the Parish Council for several years. He was also a Cursillo . Upon his retirement David loved to work outside, watch westerns and tell his stories about doodlebugging. He had three very special companions and enjoyed taking care of his four legged friends.
David is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert and Simon Ortiz; sisters, Pauline Puentes, Barbara and Gloria Cerda; daughter, Nora Ortiz; grandson, Nicholas Strickland.
David leaves behind his wife of sixty-three years, Linda Ortiz; daughters, Norma (Robert) Gonzales, Nancy (Johnny) Vasquez, Natalie Ortiz, Anastacia Ortiz, son, Charles Ortiz; Grandchildren; Melanie Torres, Amie Bandel, Bianca Vasquez, Linda Muriel, Juan Vasquez, Jr., Nina Oropeza, Ruben and Wiliam Ortiz; 10 Great Grandchildren, brothers, Richard and Thomas Ortiz.
A rosary service will be held Tuesday December 04, 2018 at 7Pm at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Big Lake, TX. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday December 05, 2018 at 11Am at St. Margaret's Catholic Church with interment service directly following in Glen Rest Cemetery in Big Lake, TX.
