It was no coincidence that on Tuesday night there was one lone star shining brightly in the sky for all to see. This star appeared at the same time that Lana Kay Bolin Watkins passed from this life into her eternal home in heaven with Jesus, her Lord and Savior. Lana was born on July 18, 1943, in Roswell, New Mexico to Willis Delle and Glenda Faye Lowe Bolin. Growing up she was an Air Force brat and at times attended more than one school during the same year. It was during her senior year at San Angelo Central High School that she met the man she was destined to be with, Jerry Dean Watkins. He married the “girl with the coke-bottle figure” that September in 1961 and they spent the next 44 years sharing life together. Jerry preceded her in death on January 12, 2006. During their life together they raised and are survived by four daughters: Lori Kay (Don) Wilson, Lesli (Eldon) Jones, Deanna (Sam Sablan) Watkins, and Margie (Michael) Wagnon. Lana is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Dillon, Samantha, Savannah, Susannah Mann, Denver Moore, Madalyn and Caleb Jones, Mason and Maloree Mills, Coleson, Miah, Coltyn and Miriam Wagnon; and 4 great-grandchildren: Kurtis Mann, Genevieve Jones, Natasha and Christopher Moore. In addition, Lana is survived by her brother, Ron (Janet) Bolin and sister, Vicki (Dwain) Morrison. Also surviving her is her husband, Andre Balogh. Taking the Great Commission seriously, close neighbors and friends lead Lana to salvation in 1966. She spent the rest of her life learning about Jesus and God and serving them in various roles at Belmore Baptist Church and at Paul Ann Baptist Church. She raised her daughters to do the same thing and made sure they were involved in the church while they were growing up and each were saved before they left home and went into adulthood. For reasons we will never understand this side of heaven, Lana left us at the too young age of 69 years, 11 months, and 16 days on July 2, 2013. The loss of this courageous, vivacious, devoted woman would be more than her family could bear were it not for the words of our Lord in Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

I met Lana in Acuna Coahulia Mexico. She was so sweet, kind and happy. Laughing, smiling. Lifting the spirits of all around her. We became friends and talked often after we both left Mexico. Peace and Blessings to Lana in heaven and her family on earth.

So very sorry to all of you that you will wake up each morning and not be able to call your mom and chat, but I know that you are comforted that she is in the presence of her Lord and Savior. I know she was prepared for that when it was to happen but I know she didn't want to leave you all so soon either. When she would come in to the office and we would talk, she would tell me how all her girls were doing and all the grandchildren, and of course the wonderful man in her life! She was such a beautiful woman inside and out and I was so priviledged to know her....I can't help but think how happy Willie Belle will be to see her again in Heaven, she loved her so much! Lori, you and your family are in my prayers...sorry I couldn't make the funeral, I couldn't get off work...

Lana and I were close friends and neighbors when our children were young. I have such warm fond memories of our times together. What I remember most is her total devotion to her family, her positive attitude and her wonderful smile. When I moved across town we still spoke often on the phone but eventually lost touch. I never made another friend like Lana and I missed her so much. However, while on my walk one morning I saw a lady walking ahead of me and thought I know that walk, it is Lana's walk...I called out her name and she turned around and she called my name. It was great. And so we were reunited recently and picked up right where we left off. It was meant to be. She was such a light in my life.

Lesli I remember you so well in your cowboy boots playing with a rope on the front side walk...you
were such an adorable child. Lori I remember you being a beautiful, sweet little girl. Lana will be so missed by so many. I Have asked Lana to save me a place in Heaven. I know she will.
Love and Blessings,

Margie,

I rarely go on to the San Angelo Standard Times these days, but find that it was no coincidence that I recognized your mom right away. I remember how wonderful your parents both were and how kind she was to me as a little girl. I have fond memories of Glenmore Elementary School and all the fun sleepovers we had at your warm and loving house. She was a lovely lady. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Fondly,

Roger Watkins
