Burgess Clifton DeLauis, 89, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on December 21, 2021. Burgess was born on September 5, 1932 to Thomas Walter Clifton and Lula Jane Clifton in Brady, Texas. After graduating from Abilene Senior High School in 1951, she received the designation of Registered Nurse from Hendrick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Burgess went on to study at Hardin Simmons University and received a Bachelor of Science degree. After receiving her degree, Burgess was certified as a Nurse Anesthetist by The Baylor School of Anesthesia As a nurse, she worked in the operating room and the emergency room, as well as serving as the school nurse for East Central High School and as the industrial nurse at Southwest Research Institute. Burgess touched the lives of countless people that were fortunate enough to cross her path.
Referred to as “Aunt Bird”, “Aunt Burgess”, “The Burg” and of course Mom, Burgess made it her mission to help improve the lives of all the people that were part of her life. She had a unique gift of providing a sense of family to those in need. A friend to all and a mother to many, her love will never be forgotten.
Burgess was predeceased by her father Thomas Walter Clifton, her mother Lula Jane Clifton, her brother John (Chief) Clifton and her husbands Johnnye Pat Estes and Francis Stanley (Dee) DeLauis Jr.
She is survived by her son Johnnye Scott Estes and his wife Billie Billings and her son Nathan Shield Estes and his wife Kelly West.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to Burgess DeLauis Memorial at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Gift Funds: Burgess DeLauis Memorial - Gift Funds for St. Jude (stjude.org). There will be a celebration of life at a location and date to be determined in the near future.
