

Dorothy was the youngest of three children. Her brother Jack, sister Virginia and Dorothy were born to John and Marie Hegdal on Oct. 22, 1923 in El Dorado, Kansas. Dorothy graduated from El Dorado High School in 1941 and attended El Dorado Jr. College.
While attending El Dorado Jr. College she was recruited by Curtis Wright Aeronautical Engineering and sent to Purdue University as an Engineering Cadet in 1943. She was then sent to Hickam Field Hawaii in their Engineering Department. Upon completion of WWII in 1945 Dorothy returned to the U.S. and attended the University of Kansas as a Social Science major.
While attending the University of Kansas she met her husband to be, Richard, and they were married on April 2, 1947. Dorothy graduated from KU with a degree in Social Science in 1948 and she and Richard had twin sons, Christopher Scott and Douglas Clinton, born July 6, 1949, while Richard completed his degree in Architecture in 1950.
Dorothy, Richard and family moved to Denver, CO and Richard was recalled to the USAF during the Korean War. Their daughter Alison Marie was born one year later in Cheyenne, WY. After serving his recall duty Richard was employed by the petroleum industry and the family lived in Oklahoma, Chicago, Houston and Ft. Worth. While in Ft. Worth they built a home on Eagle Mountain Lake where Dorothy and family enjoyed sailing and water sports for the next thirteen years.
Dorothy and Richard accepted an assignment in Europe and the Middle East where they lived in Tehran, Iran for several years. Upon their return to the U.S. they moved to Clear Lake, TX where Dorothy and family enjoyed tennis and water sports. During this time they sailed to Florida for several years and then up the East Coast of the U.S. to Savannah, GA to visit friends.
In 1999 they moved to Georgetown, TX and lived in Sun City. During this time they purchased a Recreational Vehicle and Dorothy especially enjoyed travelling the U.S from coast to coast, visiting the National Parks and Canada while visiting relatives throughout the U.S.
Dorothy spent the last fourteen years of her life as a member of First Presbyterian Church Georgetown, lived in Sun City with her husband and visited family in San Antonio and Houston and her other many friends and neighbors.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Richard of sixty-seven years; her children and their families, Chris and his wife Siti of Houston, TX; Doug and his wife Barbie of San Antonio, TX and Alison Barker and her husband Steve of San Antonio. She is also survived by her grandchildren Cori Beach of Houston, TX; Blair Downs and her husband Lonnie of Charlotte, NC.; Cliff Haryanto, his wife Naomi and children Leone, Levi and Liam of Jakarta, Indonesia; Howard Haryanto and his wife Jessica of Houston, TX; Lyndia Makol, her husband Ryan and daughter Leonie of Houston, TX; Jonathan Barker, his wife Michele and daughter Caroline of San Antonio, TX; Emily Cleveland and her husband Ben of Birmingham, AL; Bryan Beach of San Antonio, TX; Tyler Beach of Prince George, B.C.; and Graham Beach, his wife Jennifer and son Ryland of San Antonio, TX.
Visitation is at Porter Loring Funeral Home on McCullough from 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday, June 27, 2014. There will be a memorial service at First Presbyterian Church Georgetown, 703 S. Church Street, Georgetown, TX on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 11:00 am.
