Erika Mauricio Ramirez, 37, died on Monday, May 14, 2018. In 2013 she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and spent seven and a half grueling months in the hospital. She achieved remission through the darkest days and was eventually rehabilitated. In March of 2018, a routine checkup revealed that the Leukemia had relapsed. Although she once again achieved remission, she succumbed to the aftermath of chemotherapy.
Erika was one of two siblings. She is survived by her husband, Adrian Ramirez, her daughter, Liana Ramirez; Parents, Juan and Maria Elena Mauricio, Brother, Daniel Mauricio; Sister-In-Law, Gessel Mauricio; Nephews, Anthony Mauricio, Gian Molina, Nathan Molina; Grandmother, Juana Almaguer, and a number of loving family and friends.
As a student she began taking band class in seventh grade, playing the clarinet, all the way through her Senior year. She graduated from CC Winn High School in the Spring of 1999. That fall she enrolled at Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde, Texas. While at SWTJC she met her college sweetheart, Adrian Ramirez, and worked at the Forum 6 Theatres. In 2002, She enrolled at Texas State University (Formerly Southwest Texas State University), majored in Education and received her Bachelor’s Degree. She and Adrian were married on December 30, 2006. In 2010, they welcomed their first and only child, Liana Ramirez.
Erika will always be remembered for her personality. She had a signature laugh that was infectious and could always be heard from a very long way. Always willing to lend a hand to help a friend in need, and she always held on to the dream of being a wife and mother. Her dreams were fulfilled. Though the last five years of her life were met with the dreaded “C” word, and various health obstacles, she found comfort in humor, family, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78128. Viewing will be Friday, May 18, 2018 from 6-9 pm; Memorial service will be Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 2 pm. A reception will follow.
