November 27, 1926 – March 24, 2019
Iva L. Greenawalt Welge of San Antonio, Texas passed March 24, 2019. She was 92. Mrs. Welge was born November 27, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA to John and Lucy
Steffen Greenawalt. She graduated from Olney High School then attended Franklin School of Nursing where she graduated as a Registered Nurse.
In 1950, Welge enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. She did her basic training at Fort Sam Houston where she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. She was sent to Japan where she was attached to the 141st General Hospital Unit attending shell-shock patients. She was honorably discharged in March, 1952.
On May 24, 1952, Iva was united in marriage to Frederick C. Welge, Sr. in Philadelphia, PA. Fred and Ivy made their home in San Antonio. They were blessed with four children; William, Mary Beth, Rebecca, and Sally.
In 1966, the Welge’s moved to Oklahoma City due to a job transfer where Ivy worked at Presbyterian Hospital. The family minus Bill and Becky returned to San Antonio in 1977. The family were members of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Fred passed away in February 1988 after 36 years of marriage as well as her parents and two sisters, Jean Maurer and Grace Nieto. She leaves to cherish her memory son William of Oklahoma City, Mary Beth and Sally of the home, and Becky and husband Dan Perkins of Houston. Ivy has two grandchildren Will Perkins of Houston, and Jacob Welge of Austin, Texas.
The family would like to thank Paula Zamarripa who provided dedicated, loving care for our mother for her last three years of life. Our mother loved and adored her.
