After graduation from Northport High School, James enlisted in the United States Air Force, and proudly served his country until he retired December 31, 1985. He has received numerous decorations, citations, and awards for his dedicated service.
In his free time, when at the peak of his health, he enjoyed working on DIY projects, and took great pride in adding beauty, functionality and value to his home. Throughout his life he also enjoyed good food, good friends, and an occasional card game.
He is preceded in death by his third wife, Janice Louise Gitsas.
He is survived by his daughter, Silva Lee Gitsas-Pourliakas; his son-in-law, Niko Pourliakas; his granddaughter, Katerina Pourliakas; and his grandson, Plutarch Pourliakas.
Committal Service with Military Honors by The United States Air Force will be conducted at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, July 5, 2019 at 1:30 pm at shelter number three.
