Leonard C. Stancombe Deacon

Leonard C. Stancombe Stan, Deacon at St. Helena's Catholic Church, CMSgt USAF Ret. age, 68, passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2010 after a courageous battle with esophageal and prostate cancer in San Antonio.

Stan was born on January 14, 1942 in Lawrence County, Indiana.

He entered the Air Force in December 1960, retiring in January 1986 as a CMSgt. Stan graduated from the University of Tampa with a BS in business administration, worked with financial services, did substitute teaching and then taught at Holy Rosary School.

Stan was ordained as a deacon in the Catholic Church on September 16, 2001. Throughout his life he was an active volunteer with school, church, charitable and military organizations such as AFSA, NCOA, and Chief's Groups at Randolph AFB, religious education, and RCIA. He was very much a family person and many of his volunteer activities involved his children. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, ACTS, Guadalupanas, and The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher. Stan greatly loved being a deacon and serving the Lord through His people here on earth. He was a loving husband of 46 years, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by, his mother, Juanita Ballinger; and his brother, David Lee Luttrell.

Stan is survived by his wife, Marilyn; brothers, Keith Kay Stancombe, Manuel, Dale, and Thomas Luttrell; his sister, Carolyn Sue Diaz; children, Mark Susan, Maria, Christina, and Jonathan Stancombe; grandchildren, Nate, Andrew, and Jon Stancombe.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 8, 2010, at St. Helena's Catholic Church.
