Richard is survived by his devoted wife of over 50 years, Catherine Rickenbacker; daughters Rae Lynn and Temeika LaShawn Rickenbacker; his mother, Rosanna Rickenbacker; sisters Deborah Rickenbacker, Diane Rickenbacker, Carol Rickenbacker, Rose Ann Rickenbacker, and Lisa Rickenbacker; brothers John Rickenbacker (Patricia) and James Rickenbacker; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Cleveland Rickenbacker, and his brother, Robert Rickenbacker.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Richard served with distinction for decades, including two tours in Vietnam. His career in cryptology took him around the world and included roles as a cryptographic technician, instructor, and supervisor. After retiring from active duty as a Master Sergeant, Richard continued his service to the nation as a civil servant. He held the position of Product Support Element Chief within the AFLCMC/HNC Cryptologic & Cyber Systems Division. Known for his expertise and professionalism, he earned high praise from colleagues and leaders alike for his loyalty, creativity, and inspirational leadership.
Richard had an insatiable curiosity and a passion for learning. A voracious reader with diverse interests, he enjoyed photography, exploring emerging technologies, firearms, music, and service to the community. His faith was central to his life; he believed that all things are possible through Christ and was a proud member of Grace First Baptist Church in San Antonio.
Richard’s legacy of service, dedication, and faith will be cherished by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.
The family will receive guests from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m., Monday, June 8, 2026, at Porter Loring Mortuary West, with a Funeral Service to follow at 12:00 p.m.
A Committal Service will take place after the Funeral Service on Monday, June 8, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
