February 14, 1942 – March 26, 2021
Sharry Crofford Gould San Antonio—Sharry Gould, 79, died Friday, March 26, 2021 at home, after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Command SGT Major, Leon R. & Mrs. Eleanor Delony Crofford. She is survived by her husband, Dr. R. Bruce Gould; son, Richard B. Gould; daughter-in-law, Linda Garza Gould; grandsons, Jordan, Andrew and Cameron Gould; granddaughters-in-law, Heather Gould and Chelsea Gibbs-Gould; and great granddaughter, Nicole Gould. Sharry has been a blessing to the family, church, community leaders and wounded military veterans. During her productive life, she shared her knowledge with preschool, middle school and high school students, as well as challenged youngsters and those attending the seminary. She loved teaching and her students loved her. Music has always been a big part of her life. For many years, she gave piano, guitar and voice lessons. At the age of 14, she served as the choir director, pianist and organist at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. She sang on the radio as well as appearing on the famed Hilo Hattie television program. When evangelist Billy Graham was visiting Hawaii, his prime soloist was ill. On short notice, Sharry filled in and sang “Amazing Grace,” to rave reviews. The very same year, Sharry received a scholarship from the Eastman School of Music because of her talents in singing opera and playing piano. Also that same year, she took the California Intelligence Test and aced it. Believing that the test had been compromised, the State of California sent an investigator. They realized that Sharry was a genius. Sharry graduated from Lee High School and was the valedictorian of her class, even though she only attended there her Senior year. She has written and published two books as well as several articles in journals and other periodicals. She was very gifted, but she knew that her gifts came from the Lord. She realized that she had to use those gifts, even though sometimes they were a burden.
The Gould Family will have a glorious celebration sometime in the future once it is safe to do so.
