Willodean Sullivan Sledge, born April 8, 1927 in Cherokee, Alabama to Vernie and Lillie Sullivan, passed away on January 18, 2013 after an extended illness. She married D.W. Sledge in 1946 who preceded her death in 1987. Mrs. Sledge was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in San Antonio, Texas, where she resided since 1977. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing. She worked as a nurse during World War II, but enjoyed being a homemaker, devoted wife, and mother most of her life. Mrs. Sledge was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Billie Turberville and Aline Thompson. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Sledge Serna and husband, Jim; brothers, Cecil, Charles, Bobby, William, and Kenneth Sullivan; sisters, Jewel Turberville, Betty Johnson, and Mary Aldridge; numerous nephews, nieces, and four step-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held in Cherokee, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association.
