Chris passed away peacefully on May 4. Jean, his loving wife of 41 years, was by his side. He will always be remembered for his twinkling eyes and great smile. Chris loved to run and completed more than 15 marathons along with numerous other races. He would dance with Jean and all his friends for hours.
He was born in Paris, France, lived on his grandmother’s farm in Brittany, France during World War II and lived in Paris before coming to the U.S. at age 11 to live with his mother, Marie (Le Coȋc) Massard, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His father, Maurice Urbain Massard, lived in Paris and Chris visited him often.
Chris graduated from Bound Brook High School in NJ and served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. He was the owner of Chris Massard Roofing & Siding for over 45 years in Middlesex and Westfield, NJ, where he lived for many years before moving to San Diego, CA with his wife in 2000.
He is preceded in death by his parents. He leaves his wife, Jean Thomas Massard (neé Shellenberger), his children, Michael, Christian and Tracy Massard, step-daughter Teigue Thomas, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Chris also leaves his half brother, Robert Diehl and his half sister, Claudia Rybeck and their spouses.
