Elisa Jarmer was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, on October 29, 1930 as Elisa Margarita Vilaro Del Rio. Her father was Juan Vilaro Gali from Barcelona, Spain and her mother was Candida Elisa Del Rio from Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Elisa had two older brother, Juan and Rodolfo, and an older sister, Teresa. She had many aunts, uncles, and cousins who lived on the island of Puerto Rico.

In 1950, she married Harold Jarmer, who was stationed in Puerto Rico. For a short time, they lived in Georgia, but he was soon transferred to Austria. Elisa loved Austria and enjoyed her time there.

Sadly, their marriage did not work out and they were divorced in 1954. Elisa never remarried and did not have any children. In 1956, Elisa moved with her widowed mother, divorced sister, and two nieces to San Diego, California where they lived on 35th Street in Normal Heights for many years.

Elisa worked for a few years at a bank in North Park. She was not satisfied working at the bank and decided that she wanted to go back to college and become a teacher.

Elisa taught elementary school for over 30 years. She loved teaching and was very proud of the fact that she was helping educate children.

Elisa's most prized possession was her home in Kensington. She loved to decorate her house for every holiday. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She was very proud that her home consistently won ribbons for the best decorated house on the block.

Elisa was very kind to her friends and neighbors. She was always sending little notes and gifts. She was very well thought of by her friends and neighbors. She loved them dearly. Also, she considered herself very loyal and dutiful to her family. She has 4 nephews: Juan Luis, Miguel, and Jose who live in Puerto Rico, and Phil who lives in North Carolina. She also has a niece, Maria, in Massachusetts.

One of Elisa's greatest joys was being a faithful Catholic. She attended St. Didacus Catholic Church since the 1950's.

She is survived by her niece, Darlene, her great-nephew Kellan, his wife Audrianna, and their daughter, Charlotte. Her beloved mother, sister Teresa, and niece, Sandra, predeceased her. She missed them very much.

A Rosary and Mass will be held for her at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at St. Didacus Church, followed by interment at El Camino Memorial Park at 1:00 PM.
