Judy Carol Johnson
March 21, 1946 – May 2, 2019
Judy Carol Johnson, 73, of La Jolla, passed away on May 2, 2019, with her loving Family by her side.
Judy was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina on March 21, 1946. She had the sweetest of love for her family and many friends. Those left to carry on her legacy, are her mother Verna Toole of Wilmington, NC, her husband of 40 years Richard (Dick) Johnson, her daughter, Taylor S. Johnson both of La Jolla, three sisters, Bobbie Keene of San Diego, Sue Willetts (Carl) and Karen Williams (Pete) of Wilmington NC. a special sister Starr Hernandez and her mother in law Adelaide H. Johnson of Fresno. Preceding her in death are her father John Taylor of NJ, Bob Keene of Richlands NC and nephew Gabriel Willetts of Wilmington NC.
Judy’s smile was attached to her heart which brought the brightest of love and friendship to anyone she met. She was known for her strength and courage while encountering many battles throughout her life. Judy was an achiever and top of her class throughout her school years and went on to become a highly successful Airline Stewardess for TWA in the glamour days of the ’60s, 70’s and 80’s where she flew around the world during her 30 years of flying! Judy loved being with people and helping others where she volunteered for Scripps, La Jolla’s Surgical Waiting Room. She was recognized for her enthusiasm and passion she put into her volunteer job. Everything Judy did, her heart and soul were there 100%. She loved going to Topsail Island, NC. most every summer! Some of the best summers were spent going crabbing, singing karaoke at the beach house, having family and friends come over and enjoying the sunshine while having those long walks on the shore while picking up shells. Judy loved to Dance! Some of her favorite times were dancing at the concerts at the Cove with family and friends.
But most of all she yearned to be a mother and God blessed her and her family with her daughter, Taylor Suzanne. When Taylor came into her and Dicks life at only six days old, Judy’s family was complete. All Judy ever wanted was to be a mother, and a phenomenal mother she was.
We would like to send our love and thank everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and visits during the past ten months along with the hospital staff and doctors at Jacobs Medical Center - La Jolla especially Dr. Gallagher and the Palliative Care Team. All will forever be a blessing to Judy and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Judy's memory to The Elizabeth Hospice of San Diego www.elizabethhospice.org.
Judy will be interned at Miramar National Cemetery and a beautiful Celebration of Life party will be held soon at her home in La Jolla and another in Topsail Beach North Carolina later in the year.
Judy always said, “Celebrate my life! Wear bright colors! Dance and have a big party to remember me by!”

I remember when I was small going to spend the night with Judy at Papa and Grandma's home. The next day we would make us a makeshift playhouse out of tobacco sticks and tobacco twine. We would go pick wild berries and paint our fingernails. We would pick wild blackberries and pretend to make pies. We also pretended to dip snuff like Grandma. Our snuff was made from cinnamon and sugar. We really had fun. Later on, I remember working in tobacco with Judy at Papa's house. Although it was work, we had some fun times. Judy always had a smile on her face and was a joyful person and a delight to be around. She will surely be missed. Rest in peace sweet Judy.
