Sinclair "Sindy" Myers

Sinclair Buzzell was born on July 21, 1941, a few minutes before her twin Susan Ann, in Washington D.C. to Rosemary Ann Buzzell and Richard Irving Buzzell, who had met and married in San Diego but moved to Arlington, VA in 1940 in the lead up to the war. Dick sold business machines in the nation's capital during World War II, and the couple's third child Barbara was born in 1945. After the war, they returned to San Diego, where they first settled in the Kensington/Normal Heights area, moving to La Mesa in the early 1950s. Sindy attended Franklin Elementary, Junior High in La Mesa, and Grossmont High School, graduating in 1959.

During her freshman year at San Diego State University, she met Robert E. Myers, Jr. and they eloped to Las Vegas on July 3, 1960. They moved to an apartment on Normal Street, where she worked in the mailroom at San Diego Unified School District Education Center. Her daughter Jennifer was born in 1961, followed by daughter Robin in 1963. Sindy and Bob moved around San Diego from Hillcrest to Crown Point to Ocean Beach, where Bob worked at his parents' Mobil station on Newport and Cable. When Bob took a job with Western Electric in 1965, the family moved to Colorado, first living in Manitou Springs. They divorced in 1969 and Sindy moved to Colorado Springs. During the sixties and seventies, Sindy worked at Safeway as a checker, where she met her lifelong friends Rita, Susie, Marilyn, and Debbie.

She married Michael Conway in 1972, and for a period cared for his two children Mike and Amy, along with her own daughters. She became the first female front end manager of the South Nevada Avenue Safeway, but declined becoming the first female manager of a Safeway after her mentor died of a heart attack likely brought on by stress. She subsequently changed jobs, working for Conway's Red Top restaurants. Her marriage to Mike ended in 1977. She worked at Coco's for a time, then went to secretarial college before settling into a job drafting for HVAC engineering companies, work she enjoyed because it required precision and allowed her to use her artistic skills.

In 1982, she returned to San Diego to be near her aging parents. She worked for Ehmke sheet metal and married Bob Rydberg in 1987, the year her father died. After that marriage ended in 1995, she reconnected with her newly single former husband, Bob Myers, at the rehearsal dinner for her daughter Jenny's wedding. Two years later, they remarried, with their two daughters as witnesses.

Sindy had a great zest for life, brought people together, and loved crafting, collecting, thrift shopping and travel. She went on several cruises, from Hawaii to the Amazon to Alaska and rivers in Europe. She loved the ocean, boogie boarding, and snorkeling, theme parks and roller coasters. She loved tie dye clothing and tropical fish.

In the twenty years from 1997 to 2017, she witnessed a number of deaths of family and friends: her mother Rosemary, her cousin Michael Ann, her in-laws Robert and Gwen Myers, her sister's partner of 35 years, Verna, niece Abigail, niece Shannon's son Aubrey, her brother-in-law Dick Casey, her best friend Rita, and her nephew Christopher. She received a diagnosis of stage four lung cancer in October 2016, and fought hard until her twin sister Sue's illness and subsequent death June 7 of this year. She leaves her husband of 31 years, Bob, her sister Barbara Haugeland and nephew John, sister-in-law Edith Casey; daughter Jennifer, son-in law George Waters and grandchildren Emily and Ben; daughter Robin and son-in-law Jeff O'Donnell, granddaughter Rebekah Smelser; stepson Philip Myers, daughter-in-law Amber and grandchildren Jade and Raiden; stepson Rob Myers, daughter-in-law Christine and granddaughters Kate and Niamh; niece Megan and great nieces Serena and Daphne; niece Shannon and her husband Jeff, and great nieces Casey and Avery, niece Leslie Fowler, and many, many loving friends and neighbors.
