Armond Enrico Conti, 82, of Royal Oaks, California, peacefully passed away on August 18, 2021 in Saratoga, California.
Born on February 11, 1939 in San Francisco, California to Enrico and Theresa Conti, Armond graduated from St. Ignatius High School and San Jose State University. In 1955 he met Christine on a blind date at the Don Sherwood Show in San Francisco, and after an “on again, on again” courtship, they wed in 1959 at St. Leo the Great Parish. The newlyweds lived in San Francisco, Livermore, and eventually settled in San Jose.
Armond landed his first “real” job at Lawrence Livermore Lab, and then went on to work as an engineer for General Electric in the Nuclear Energy Division. After retirement, Armond continued as an engineering consultant for GE as the favored and often requested “plumber” for GE’s nuclear reactor customers.
Armond was a force of nature, strong yet kind, determined to care for his family who meant more to him than anything. He was endlessly proud of all of us and always provided support, wisdom, and guidance. Throughout his life he held a resolute faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him.
Armond was passionate about muscle cars, specifically MOPARs and throughout his life, attained quite a collection. He could often be found tinkering in his garage rebuilding a 340 small-block or 4-barrel carburetor. His prize is his 1951 Plymouth Cranbrook convertible.
Armond was also an avid Lionel toy train collector, inventorying and detailing every nuance of his extensive collection. He built a 625 square foot layout in the basement (of the house he also built!) to play with his trains, complete with the Christine Luetke Nuclear Power Plant and the Constant Coughing Coal Company of whom Kathryn Conti is Vice President and General Manager.
Everyone who knew Armond knew that he took care of his family; he was always there with his generous spirit to assist anyone who was in need, giving freely of himself to all. He often reminded us to “give to everyone that asks, you never know who Jesus may be.”
Armond possessed a sense of humor like no other; he was a consummate teaser, always looking for a laugh or willing to dish out his signature smirk. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Armond is predeceased by his parents, older brother, cousins, nieces and nephew, and some lifelong friends including Ken, Bill, Joe, and Tony to name just a few.
Armond is survived by his wife of 62 years, Christine, and their four children Michael (Jodi), Tricia (Mark), John (Heidi), and David (Natasha). Armond was also blessed with 12 grandchildren: John (Danielle), James (Julie), Jason (Sammie), Gregory, Christine, Kathryn (Tyler), Joshua, Madelyn, Sarah, Dylan, Anabella, and Gianna; and 2 great-grandchildren: Charlie and Ellie.
There will be a Memorial Mass celebrating Armond’s life on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 2pm at St. Lucy Catholic Parish, 2350 S. Winchester Blvd., Campbell, California 95008. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to Priests for Life or a charity of your choice.
