Dorothea Dorney, 91, of Sandwich passed away with her daughter and two granddaughters by her side at the McCarthy Care Center on Monday, February 19, 2018. She was born on June 20th, 1926 in Providence, RI, to the late James E. and Ellen (McDonald) Dorney.
She enjoyed her many years working in restaurant management and event catering. She had a special eye for making others' “Big Day” memorable and took great pride in personalizing the details to make the day their own. She enjoyed her many years in restaurant management. Among the many places included were the White Rabbit in Wareham, Mildred’s Chowder House in Hyannis, East Bay Lodge in Osterville, Dumphey’s Hotel and other notable establishments.
Despite her busy schedule, she still found time for her first love, her dogs, which brought her great amusement and pleasure up until the day she passed. Although Dorothea never had children of her own she raised Sharyn as her daughter after her sister, Ellen died when Sharyn was still young. She is survived by Sharyn Raftery, her granddaughters, Marissa Ellen Raftery and Laura Higgins, and her niece Leah Colombo. She is predeceased by four siblings, James “Teddy” Dorney, Ellen C. Raftery, Raymond “Buddy” Dorney and Leah Bradley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Parish 324 Quaker Meeting House Road East Sandwich. Visitation prior to funeral mass will be held at the church. Burial will be private. Arrangements entrusted by the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 154 Route 6A Sandwich, MA.
