Having suffered through an overtime loss to The Citadel, staring at the prospect of a 1-10 Georgia Tech football season, and seeing her beloved Braves give up 10 runs in the top of the first to lose game 5 of the NLDS, lifelong Atlanta resident, Carolyn Davie Dvorscak, aged 91, left this life peacefully on October 18 to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband of 62 years, the late Bernard J. Dvorscak. “Rosie”, as her loving grandchildren, friends and family knew her, was born on December 21, 1927 in Winterville, GA to Mary Loucile Holliday and Robert Welborn Davie. Following the passing of her father shortly after Rosie’s birth, her mother moved the family of five girls and one son to Atlanta. The family operated Daisy Davie Cake Shop, which was located on Peachtree Street in the heart of Buckhead from 1935 until 1959. Rosie attended NAPS, now known as Westminster Academy, and the University of Alabama. She was a founding member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church and regularly attended services until health issues in her later years prevented attendance in person. She enjoyed watching services through the live-streaming feature provided by the church allowing her to stay connected to friends at PRUMC. She loved reciting the prayers, singing the hymns, and the convenience of dosing off during a particularly slow sermon without being noticed by fellow worshipers.
Mrs. Dvorscak was an active volunteer for several organizations in the community – The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Ballet, Sandy Springs Garden Club, Sandy Springs Civic Association, Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, and Alpharetta First United Methodist Church. She held jobs at the Daisy Davie Cake Shop, Georgia Tech Experiment Station, substitute teacher at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic School, Holliday Happenings and Tour Gals of Atlanta. She was an avid tennis player in her younger days and enjoyed playing bridge with friends right up until her passing. She enjoyed the hot dogs at Costco, the grilled pimento cheese sandwiches at the Varsity and anything at Chic-Fil-A.
Rosie is survived by her children – Michael D. Dvorscak and his wife Camille of Johns Creek, Holly D. Hunter of Alpharetta, and Mary Joan D. Paucke and her husband Joseph of Glen Allen, Virginia; Grandchildren – Travis Eugene Hunter (wife Sarah), Timothy James Hunter (wife Katherine), Mary Lucille Hunter, Jennifer Evelyn Paucke and Holly Paucke Edmondson (husband James); Great Grandchildren – Logan and Noah Howell, Hudson and Hamilton Edmondson, and Julian Hunter; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and grand-dogs.
Rosie loved her family, friends, church, Georgia Tech and the beach. She will be missed by all.
