Elizabeth Sizemore Thibadeau passed away peacefully on December 6, 2018, surrounded by her children. Elizabeth was born February 9, 1926, in Early County GA to Christine Tennille Pickron and Samuel B. Pickron. She grew up in Southwest Georgia and graduated from Norman Park High School and Mercer University. On December 21, 1947 Elizabeth married Atlanta attorney, Lamar W. Sizemore Sr., her college sweetheart from Mercer and moved to Avondale Estates, GA and raised their family. After Lamar's sudden death in 1974, Elizabeth later married realtor John S. Thibadeau and they moved to Cumming, GA and enjoyed many years on the lake. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Kathleen Sizemore of Alpharetta, GA; her sons Lamar W. Sizemore Jr (Sandy) of Macon, GA; Alan G. Sizemore of Atlanta, GA; the late Gregory P. Sizemore; her sister Bonnie Brownlee (Emory) of Cumming, GA; and stepsons John S. Thibadeau Jr. (Cissy) of Peachtree City, GA; Jim Thibadeau (Maryann) of Atlanta, GA; Bob Thibadeau (Sue) of Pittsburgh, PA; and Tom Thibadeau (Judy) of Decatur, GA. Elizabeth was a tireless volunteer to numerous church, civic, and philanthropic organizations including American Red Cross, United Methodist Children's Home, Youth Ministries, Boy & Girl Scouts of America, United Cerebral Palsy Center, and Home Mission Board. Of particular heartfelt interest to Elizabeth were organizations dedicated to nurturing and caring for children with special needs, and she taught school to these children for many years. She served as past President of Avondale Estates Garden Club, and served as member and officer in numerous current event clubs, book clubs, and educational clubs. She was a member of Chi Omega, Junior League, DAR, Capital City Club, First United Methodist Church of Cumming, and First Baptist Church of Decatur.
Elizabeth loved the creative arts and was an accomplished artist and writer. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Elizabeth enjoyed spending time with her family at their homes in Atlanta and Seaside, FL. Beloved by many, Elizabeth was a gracious, dignified lady who will be missed by all who knew and loved her dearly. The family will receive friends at H.M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel at 173 Allen Road, Sandy Springs, GA on Saturday, December 15th from 3 until 5 o’clock. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Sunday, December 16th at 2 o’clock also at Arlington Chapel. A private family burial will take place at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Mercer University, C/O Development Office, 1501 Mercer University Drive, Macon, GA 31207 or the donor’s favorite charity.
