Florinda Aron, accomplished academic, noted elementary and college counselor, proud and loving mother of five, grandmother to 14, and great grand mother to five, passed Friday, March 8, 2019, at the age of 92.
She is remembered for her love of family and for those she provided caring and often life-changing counseling during a 40+ year career initially as an elementary school counselor and then 30 years serving as Santa Ana College's Extended Opportunities Programs and Services (EOPS) counselor in which she positively and significantly impacted students whose educational and socio-economic backgrounds limited their access to higher education or hindered their ability to be academically successful.
And she is loved and remembered for her academic accomplishments: being accepted into the first co-ed class at St. John's College, and for having returned to college in her mid-40s as a single parent of five, and earning a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, Master’s Degree in psychology with an emphasis on child and educational counseling, and several post graduate and continuing education certificates in the field of counseling.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Peter and Kori Grimes;
Michelle and Burl Gregory; Joseph Grimes; Sue and Paul Accongio and Ray and Rebecca Grimes.
And 14 grandchildren: Nic, Matt and Trevor Grimes; Kevin Gregory; Rachel Vasquez; Erica Presley; Alex and Hailey Grimes; Amy Couple; Tommy and Sarah Accongio; Natalie, Griffin and Mallory Grimes.
Great grandchildren: June and Wyatt Vasquez; Ty and Page Presley; Brandon Jones-Grimes.
