Frances (Francie) G. Fodera died peacefully in North Tustin, CA on October 19,2018 from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. She was 89 years old. Frances was born in her grandmother’s house in Greensburg, PA on January 28,1929, the daughter of Ray and Lucy (Kubish) Markovich.
Following high school graduation, Frances attended the Westmoreland Hospital nursing school program
and married James (Jim) Joseph Fodera in 1950. After moving to Santa Ana, CA in 1960, Frances and Jim raised a family and Frances worked as a surgical and ER nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, CA for over 30 years. Throughout her life, Frances always missed the green hills, trees, and snow of Pennsylvania and continued to reminisce and visit to ease her homesickness. In retirement, she enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, all types of handicrafts and collecting and displaying Department 56 villages.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, and brother, Thomas Ray Markovich Sr. of Irwin, PA. She is survived by her children, Martha Bass, Joyce (John) Gallie, Carol (Tim) Fodera-Jones, and Jim
(Candy) Fodera, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Guardian Angels Care Home IV and the nurses of Best Golden Care Hospice for their dedication to Frances during her last year in their care. Catholic burial Mass will be held at Holy Family Cathedral in Orange, CA, 566 S. Glassell St. in Orange, CA at 12 noon on Monday, October 29,2018, followed by a graveside service at Fairhaven Memorial Park’s Serenity Garden, 1702 Fairhaven Ave., Santa Ana, CA.
