Ing. Otto González Ydrach, age 95, of San Juan, Puerto Rico, formerly of Santa Isabel, passed away September 15, 2018. Otto was born September 30, 1922 even though government records show October 30, 1922. He was the son of Rita Ydrach Duran of Coamo and Manuel González Castro of Ponce. He had four siblings, Carlos, Hector, Doris and Mabel. He graduated from Colegio Ponceño de Varones High School in Ponce. He later joined the US Army in 1943 and received an honorable discharge February 19, 1946. In 1950 Otto graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineer from University of Puerto Rico, Recinto de Mayaguez. He moved to San Juan and started working with the government. He soon realized that the government was not for him and opened his private practice as a Civil Engineer. Otto closed his office at the age of 89 and always was very proud of his career as a Civil Engineer.
Otto married Wanda Blanco Anselmi in the early 1950’s and they had two children, Gioanna González Blanco and Otto R. González Blanco. They divorced in the mid 1950’s. On December 31, 1958 he married Ileana Maeso Schroeder and they had two children, Ileana González Maeso and Otto González Maeso. He was married to Ileana Maeso Schroeder until her death of cancer in 1970. After her death he never remarried and devoted his life to the raising of their two children. His children were everything to him and he provided them with unconditional love, support, and a good education.
In the last years of his life he developed Dementia. During that time special people became part of his extended family and we are very grateful for their caring towards him. Marcia, Esmeralda, Araceli, José Miguel, Areli, Wanda, Nelly, and Sara. Also, special thanks to his brother-in-law, Dr. Andres Maeso and wife Evelyn for all the help and support.
He leaves behind his children, Ileana González Sepúlveda and son-in-law Raymond C. Sepúlveda of Houston, TX; his son Otto González Maeso and daughter-in-law Felicia Stubbs of Buford, GA; his daughter Gioanna González Blanco and son Otto R. González Blanco. He also leaves behind his three loving grandchildren, Diana Sepúlveda of Houston, TX; Julia and Adriana Sepúlveda of Brooklyn, NY; and his beloved dog, Yes, who was adopted by José Miguel. He also leaves behind many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Puerto Rico Memorial Funeral Home in Santurce with a viewing from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A mass celebrating his life will follow at 11:00 a.m. The burial will be in the afternoon at Porta Coeli Cementary in Bayamon with Graveside Military Honors.
