Merita Roberts, age 88, passed away at her home on Thursday, April 4, 2019. She was born in 1930 in Mobile, Alabama, and raised in Bayou La Batre and Belle Fontaine, Alabama in her early years. Known for many years of service to her community and church, Merita was a dedicated lady to her friends and family. Throughout her lifetime, she enjoyed raising money for her church and many different local community non-profit organizations. As a manager and bookkeeper, her greatest joy was helping others succeed in life. To Merita, life was a gift to celebrate and share with others. She loved cooking, entertaining, and animals, especially her latest little dog, Daisy. Against many adversities in her life, she remained kind and resilient. When the odds were against her, she persevered with courage and tenacity. Having lived a very fulfilling and memorable life, she is remembered for her grace, wisdom, patience and mostly her gratitude for life. A special thanks to Jessie and Chelcey of Kindred Hospice for their loving care of our mother during her illness. Merita is a very special lady. She was my moms office manager at the eye group. I remember seeing her when I was a child when I went to my moms work. She was always nice, cheerful, and considerate. My family was also very close to Merita. She will be missed. We love and appreciate her. She always had a Godly spirit.

The first time I remember meeting Rita and her husband Marion was in the late 1950's. I was between the age of 7 and 9, probably 7. They had just built a new house and I think it was near Saraland. They had 2 lovely daughters named Charlotte and Misty. We lived in Mobile then and visited them many times. We moved back to Mississippi in 1959 and I only saw them at reunions after that. I have always thought of Rita as a most dedicated Christian full of love for everyone. I want to express my sympathy to all of my cousins for their loss. I'm sorry I can't be there but I can barely stand because because of Author-itis. Thank you Phil for calling us about your loss.

Praying for Ann's full recovery.

This little lady was more than just an aunt to us, she was the family matriarch and we thought of her as a grandma. A very special person she was to us. There will never be another like her. She loved our children and I’ll nevrr forget when our daughter was born with Down syndrome she got on a plane and came to see us. She will forever be in our hearts. I wished there were more aunt Rita’s out there like her. She lived a fulfilled and happy life. We look forward to the day we see her in glory. We love you Woo Woo

There is never a time in my life I can't remember Merita there. She was my Sunday school teacher, kids choir leader, office manager and my friend. She showed me that no matter what you have to follow God's plan for your life and do your best not to question his plan. Let him be your guide and he will always make a way. I am honored to have known her and blessed to have had her loving guidance.
