Calogero (Charles) Borsellino, 89, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on March 6th, 2021, after his battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite multiple difficulties, Calogero persevered and stayed strong until the end.

Calogero was born to Guiseppe and Carmela in Cattolica Eraclea, Sicily. After completing school and deciding to follow his dreams, Calogero emigrated from Sicily to Montreal, Canada, in 1950. He eventually settled down in New York City, married and raised a family until retiring from the Excavator's Union and relocated to Sarasota, Fl in 1989.

Calogero loved being outdoors and his garden. He took particular pride in caring for his many fruit trees and plants, thoroughly appreciating Sarasota's beauty. His most immense joy, however, was his family and time spent with them. His family and extended many nieces and nephews meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned and looked forward to visiting with.

His parents, dearest sister Maria, and dear brother Franco predeceased Calogero. He is survived by his beloved wife Antoinette of almost 60 years, Children Carmela (Warren)Dodd, Jenny (Thomas) Trakoval, Leonard (Louise) DiStefano, Marie (Lawrence) Pellerito, and Josephine Borsellino. Adored grandchildren Melissa, Maria, Danielle, Stephanie, Cassandra, Gregory, Adam, and Amanda. Great-grandchildren Alexis,Declan, Logan, Julianna, Cara, Grace, and Peter. Siblings Antonino, Guiseppina and Rosa, many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends too numerous to list but not forgotten.

The family requests that in place of flowers, memorial donations be sent to Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation restricted for the Heart Failure Clinic. Calogero's sincere hope was to honor the dedicated clinical nursing staff that advocated and supported him for 17 years. Please direct donations to Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation, Inc. 1515 South Osprey Avenue Suite B-4 Sarasota FL 34239-2918 or via the website: smhf.org.

There will be a family and friend visitation on April 9th 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm and a funeral service 11am on April 10th at Robert Toale & Sons Funeral Home 170 Honore Avenue Sarasota, Fl.

Uncle Charlie was a mans man. Old school Italian that made you proud he was family. I remember as a young man sitting down at his dinner table still in my work shirt. He looked straight at me and said - go put a clean shirt on!one of the most memorable corrections anybody ever told me .that man did his people proud.
