Irene Jones Reinert, 90, of Sarasota, died on July 14, 2011. She was the widow of the late Edward A. Reinert. Born March 17, 1921 in Woodcliff, N. J., she came to Longboat Key in 1978 from Rockville Centre, NY. She had retired from a family firm, Carolyn E. Jones, Inc. in New York City. A graduate of Barnard College, she attended the American Academy of Dramatic Art and later worked as an actress in summer stock and TV. In Granville, New York, she became a social worker in child welfare and this was followed by a similar job within the Oceanside School system. She served on the board of the Barnard College Club of New York City. A member of The Church of the Redeemer, she volunteered for many years at the Episcopal Thrift Shop in Sarasota. The National Crematory Society in Sarasota is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Palmer Ranch Health Care and Rehab, 5111 Palmer Ranch Pkwy, Sarasota, Fl., 34238.
Irene attended the Dwight School for Girls. As a youngster she attended movies every Sat. with her grandmother and felt most fortunate to have seen the best-- Rogers and Astaire, Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald, or plots of Joan Crawford, Garbo and Dietrich in film, and the Lunts and Helen Hayes in the theatre.
Irene married Edward Reinert after his discharge from the army in November 1945. She had a stint with Robert Montgomery Presents, and she and Ed later helped to organize the Granville Community Players.
Irene worked for 7 years part time at the University of Sarasota as Administrative Assistant. Her life was interspersed with travels throughout the world, her second passion to theater. She continued to be a "culture vulture", enjoying theatre, art galleries, opera and symphony, as long as was possible. Church of the Redeemer was very important and friends took her often, when she could no longer drive.
The past four years, Irene lived at Palmer Ranch Healthcare and Rehab in Sarasota.
She leaves her brother-in-law, Lewis Reinert, nieces Susan, and husband Dale Murray, Barbara, and husband Fred Fasman, Jean, and husband John Ruderman, nephews Bill, and wife Anne Reinert, and Rick, and wife Georgia Reinert, Close friends Joyce and David Wilbourn of Boston and Hannelore and Dick Lockner of Long Boat Key. Irene was a beautiful, vivacious lady to the end, and left a positive impression on all those who knew her. May she rest in peace.
