After a long and memorable life, it is with heavy hearts we announce that Thomas Cobitz, at the age of 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday September 20, 2020 at Scarborough General Hospital. Loving husband of Shirley Cobitz for 65 years. He will be dearly missed by his children Thomas Cobitz Jr. (Ruilan), Christopher Cobitz (Lorri), Cheryl Lewandowski (Harry) and Kim Cobitz. Generous Grandfather to Cristin, Lise, Connor, Patrick and Kurtis. Gentle Great Grandfather to Adrien, Teagan, Chase, Camden and Zoe. He is survived by his sister Vera.
Thomas was a long-time member of IBEW, working as an electrician for various firms, worked double duty for a time as a shopkeeper/owner of a variety store in the Beaches while continuing full time as an electrician for Hydro. The last 21 years of his electrical career he spent at the Toronto Board of Education, retiring at the age of 65. Retirement saw Tom spending time in his garden or working around the house, helping his children with renovations at their homes and spending time with his grandchildren. Relaxation meant a time for watching his Toronto Maple Leafs or sitting at the dining room table, small cardboard pieces of a 2000 piece puzzle spread before him.
Special thanks to his family doctor, Dr. Salwa Azer from the Scarborough Family Health Organization and the support of our neighbours, especially Mary and John. Many thanks to the caring Staff at Scarborough General Hospital and to the wonderful paramedics.
