Cheryl Jean Hashem

Cheryl Jean Hashem "CJ" passed away June 9, 2018 at her home in Tempe, Arizona surrounded by her daughters. Cheryl was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on February 27, 1954 to Betty and Wilbur Johnson. She is survived by her loving daughters, Amineh and Jamila Hashem (Nick Low); step mother, Shirley Johnson; eldest brother, Charles Johnson "Butch"; sister, Jody Kolstad (Kevin Kolstad); brother, Todd Johnson (Melissa Johnson); nieces, Tracy Larson, Stephanie Schmidt, and Elizabeth Johnson; nephews, Reed and Gage Johnson; and many extended family members and friends. Cheryl was a compliance office manager for 15 years with Principal Financial Mortgage in Des Moines, Iowa. She then attended culinary school (NECI) in Essex, Vermont, receiving her bachelor in Culinary Arts. She moved to Arizona in 2012 to be closer to her daughters. A farm girl at heart, she enjoyed outdoor activities, animals, and baking (especially her amazing pies). In Cheryl's honor, a Celebration of Life will be held at La Bocca Restaurant on Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm (699 S. Mill Ave Tempe, Arizona 85281). A Memorial will also be held back in mom's home state of Iowa at Hessen Haus on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 (101 sw 4th St. Des Moines, Iowa 50309). In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Cheryl's honor to either Death with Dignity or World Wildlife Foundation.
