“Jean” (her preferred name) was born on July 01, 1929 in Stigler, Oklahoma to Margaret Pearl Van Dusen and Clarence Elvitt Whitlock. She married Jerry Mar Tevis on March 25, 1943 and shortly after moved to California and then to various other states until 1952 where she found permanent residence in Arizona. They had 5 children in which 3 have preceded her death (Jerry Mar Tevis Jr, Tommy Dale Tevis, and Ronnie Dean Tevis) and two surviving children (Bobby Lee Tevis and Sandra Kay Cox-both residing currently in Arizona). She was widowed with the passing of Jerry in 2011. She is survived by her two brothers (Billy Joe Whitlock in Oklahoma and Raymond Elvitt Whitlock in Arizona). She is also survived by too many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren to count. Jean worked in the cotton fields, turkey processing plants, and various other field work in her early years of marriage. She was a homemaker to her many children and loved children so much that she also became a Certified D.E.S Daycare Mother. She didn’t have a mean bone in her body and would help anyone in need. She loved spending time with her family and just enjoying the simple pleasures of life like crossword puzzles, word searches, coloring and playing board games. She was a woman of Strong Faith, she had a Sweet Spirit, and is now resting in the loving arms of Jesus.
Memorial Service will be held at Cross Church located at 17475 W Bell Rd Surprise, AZ 85374 on January 26, 2019 at 10 AM.
