A humble family man has passed into eternity. On January 11th, Rosario Frank Scripilliti was taken from this world and will be missed by all whose lives were enriched by his presence. Rosario, also known as Scrip, Papa and Big Papa, began his 94 year history as the second of 3 children born to his Sicilian parents, Guissepe Scripilliti and Gracia Cali Scripilliti. Born on February 14, 1924 in New York City, New York, he moved to Connecticut at an early age. Growing up during the depression as a child of new immigrants, young Rosario endured the hardships of those difficult times. Those experiences built a character of toughness, strength and love that endured throughout his life. He moved with his family as a young boy to San Francisco, California.
After serving in WWII in the 526th Army Infantry Battalion, he returned to his home in San Francisco to a woman to whom he would devote his life to. Anne Caltagirone accepted his wedding vows on June 16, 1946 and soon after they had 3 children of their own. (JoAnn, Joseph and Jeanne). They purchased a modest home in Belmont, California, where they lived for the next 46 years. He worked hard as a skilled Lather, a trade passed down by his father. With his young bride by his side, they worked together to provide for their children. Yet still they found a way to share their blessings with those in need. Family members learned quickly that they could always count on him.
After retiring, Scrip and Anne moved to Mesa, Arizona, where they enjoyed their home with a large yard and pool. They enjoyed making new friends and their trips to casinos. Scrip was happiest when he was surrounded by his family, which had now grown to include his children and their 3 spouses (Robert, Vicki and Rick), 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Family gathered often to enjoy one of Anne's many home cooked meals, which featured "hundreds" of his favorites. She always cooked enough to feed ten extra!
It is perceived by some in the family that Anne may have spoiled her hubby just a tiny bit. She and Scrip lived together for nearly 73 years, sharing the joys, sorrows, good and bad times. Over time, they built enduring bonds that truly made them as inseparable as God had intended. This very tough guy was also a patriot, a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, friend and as fine a man that has ever walked this earth. Those who survive him, can and will learn from his examples and the outstanding legacy he left with us.
Rosario, Scrip, Daddy, Papa and Big Papa is how you were addressed
But now your Father called you to come and be among his best
We are all sad but proud of you, for you have lived so right
And thanks for being there to kiss Anne 3 times each and every night
It will take toughness for us to carry on with all that we must now do
But your loving memory will help to get us through
