Doris Hammett went home to be with Jesus after living a wonderful life of 96 years. She is survived by her three children, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, January 19th at 2:00pm at Shoreline Community Church, 125 NE 185th Street in Shoreline, WA.
Doris was born in Little River Kansas to Pearl and Leslie Richards. She was the second of twelve children, the first girl. Most of her growing up years were spent helping with the younger ones while Doris would have much rather been helping her dad out on the farm. During the Depression the family moved west looking for work, settling in Sunnyside Washington.
Doris finished high school in 1941 and attended Northwest Bible Institute in Seattle where she paid her way working as a housekeeper, in a laundry & as a waitress. She married David Golob in 1944, who was studying to be a pastor.
Their first daughter, Karen was born in 1948, Shirley was born in 1950 and David in 1955. Mom served many years as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent and even more years in Women’s Ministries.
In 1978 mom lost her husband of 33 years at which time she was already the grandmother of ten. She traveled extensively as a single woman. Another venture she began was the liquidating of several rental homes she and dad had worked hard and long to acquire. Mom always had a generous heart towards missions and in fact gifted one house to a missionary and another to the Teen Challenge Ministry.
Mom married a wonderful man in 1985, Dick Hammett. She and Dick enjoyed nine years of marriage before he went to be with the Lord in 1994.
On mom’s 81st birthday she moved to Brier with her daughter and son-in-law, Glen. She continued her faithful giving to missions, serving in Women’s Ministries and tending the gardens and yard. Eventually this household seemed a bit too busy for an 88 year old, so mom moved to Crista where she had been a faithful visitor of several who made it their home. After a broken hip in March of 2016 mom also came to reside at Crista where she passed peacefully into her heavenly home on December 6th, 2019.
At last mom’s faith has become sight as her Lord and Savior welcomed her…
“Well done, good and faithful servant”. Matthew 25:21
