OBITUARY

Gary Joseph Slanger

March 5, 1935August 24, 2019

Gary Joseph Slanger was a loving and giving man who always put his family first.

He was born on March 5, 1935 in Helena, Montana. He was the second child of Joseph and Bessie. He had an older sister, Joyce Liston, and is survived by his younger sister, Mickey Keys.

His parents divorced in 1949 and Bessie took the three children to live in Spokane, WA where Gary attended North Central High School. He graduated in 1953 and enlisted in the Air Force because he had always wanted to fly planes. He was stationed in Korea at the end of the war and helped with rebuilding the area.

In 1957, Gary met Trudy and they were married in 1958. They moved to Seattle and had three children, Brett, Jami, and Lisa. On July 27, 2019 they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

Gary attended the University of Washington Dental School and graduated in 1966. He opened his first dental practice in Shoreline, WA. He and Trudy later moved the family to Lake Serene in Lynnwood, WA and he continued his practice for many years out of their home on the lake.

He loved airplanes and helicopters and would take a ride or a flight lesson any chance he got. He was very handy with cars, electrical, and plumbing and could fix absolutely anything. He also loved dancing with his wife, the love of his life.

Above all, Gary was a good man. An honest, faithful man who worked hard to give his family everything. He had a wonderful laugh and loved to make others laugh.

He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Devin, Jordyn, Gary, Charlotte and Jade.

I have so many special childhood memories of growing up with a Jami and Lisa and the Slanger family. Gary was always so kind, had a cheerful smile and could fix anything in his handy shop that at the time was out at the Lake Serene property, So many great memeories riding motor bikes at the Lake , endless slumber parties and of course fun trips to Farrell’s . I am so grateful for those special times and I am lifting up Jami and her entire family during this time of loss. Prayers that all the special memeories you shared with your Dad comfort you during this time, hugs Shellene aka Shelley Bruns

Just wanted to share with everyone what most people already know. My Uncle Gary was the most giving person I know. Giving of his time, his thoughts, his love, you were always enough. What ever the occasion he would always make it more fun. Even to the last day I was with him, he was thinking about me, trying to entertain me. We spent the day watching all the Seafare planes go by the house. Man he loved those planes! I only knew this because Trudy said I must have wore him out, cause he slept the whole next day! I have had the privilege to be around Gary and Trudy all my life, and they have had one hell of a ride together! Just so glad I got to be part of it, Lastly I want to thank my precious Aunt Trudy for being there for Gary through the years especially the last two. Your love has been unwavering and I love you for that .
