Marie was born and raised in Revere, Massachusetts, which at the time was a close knit Italian community. She was second of three daughters born to Catherine and Louie Viglione. Marie always loved to sing, and was part of the choir at Revere High School, and she was also involved with her church. After high school, Marie went to work for the telephone company in Boston. She also worked part-time at the drive-in movie theatre in Revere, which is where she met a handsome young police officer named John MacGlashing who swept her off her feet! They were married on June 6, 1954. John had two daughters, Donna and Linda, from a previous marriage, and Marie helped raise the girls. On April 4, 1956 Marie and John welcomed their first daughter Carol into the world, and a little over two years later their youngest daughter Dianne was born.
In 1969, the family moved to Florida. It was a bitter sweet move for Marie because she greatly missed her family in Massachusetts, but she knew it was a good move for her husband and children. Marie’s amazing cooking, combined with her and John’s welcoming hearts, made the MacGlashing home a fun place for friends of all ages to hang out. Marie would feed everyone, and John would joke and talk with all the teenagers who visited on a regular basis.
Marie had many years of caring for husband as his health failed. She was always there for him, and when he passed in 2002, it was a heartbreaking time for Marie and her girls. But, Marie’s love and dedication to her family never waned. She has always put family first, and she set the best example for her children and grandchildren of unconditional love and commitment.
In addition to her daughters, Carol Bishop, Dianne Johns and Donna Sopper, and their husbands, Marie leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved dearly.
