Walter R Winston Jr.

Walter Winston, born August 9, 1930 in Milwaukee, WI, passed away in heavenly peace April 13, 2018 surrounded by his loving wife and only son. Please join us in celebration of his life at St. Jerome Catholic Church on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., with a reception after the service, followed by a veteran’s burial at Bay Pines National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

Walter Winston, a self-made man, put himself through college at UWM, earning a degree in teaching and educational administration, plus serving in the US Army. He met and married his wife Shirley Koehler in Milwaukee, November 28, 1953. His love of family, country and profession was shared freely with all. He built a successful career as an Elementary School Principal in Oak Creek Public Schools via being expertly trained, thorough, caring, and always stayed on top of the latest techniques. He created an atmosphere of care, trust and professionalism that earned him great respect in his school community and the professional community.

Wally, as he was affectionately known, lived a life of service to his family, God, country and his profession. He was always there for his family, in good times and bad, providing sound advice and encouragement. He was truly a role model for all those he touched. His life was an inspiration and we take with us his love of the outdoors where he found God. We take with us his ingenuity and integrity, always doing things with a new twist. We take with us his incredible sense of humor and whit, always lifting the spirits of those around him. We take with us his incredible work ethic and the passion he had for educational leadership and instruction, always striving to do better. We take with us the joy he found in having fun at play… bird hunting, big game hunting, fishing, skiing, camping and coaching. Finally and most importantly, we take with us his immense love of family! We thank him for the knowledge that ultimately his family made his life complete and happy… his greatest accomplishment and biggest joy!

Wally is proceeded in death by his father Walter, mother, Viola and his brother, Glenn (Violet). He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley; his beloved son, Scott and his wife, Leslie and his grandsons, Jesse, Andy (wife, Stephany), Matthew and granddaughter Marley.

Wally’s faith and trust in God made his incredibly rich life all possible. His example and love will always shine brightly in our hearts!
