Jacob M. Monroe, 88, of Shreveport, LA, dearly loved Father of Gina, Pamela, and Craig, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019. Jacob was born on September 18, 1930, to Luther Rae and Gladys Monroe and raised in the Alexandria/Pineville area of Louisiana. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Air Force for four years to serve in the Korean War. After honorable discharge he attended ULL where he met the love of his life, ( Marie "Janelle" Faulk of Kaplan, LA) who preceded him in death. They were happily married for 43 years. He was a supervisor for the USDA Grain Inspection Division for 30 years in Beaumont, TX, Jonesboro, AR, and Crowley, LA. He was also an avid gardener, a masters level domino player, the best Jitter Bug Dancer, and an Air Force Ping Pong Champion. He loved playing cards, fishing, target shooting with his pistols and rifles, bird watching, traveling in his RV (especially to the Southwestern states), reading, riding bikes, playing with the grandkids and having fun.
He left the family with so many cherished and fun memories and was a true blessing to all those who knew him and lived life with him.We will all miss his great sense of humor, zest for life, easy going disposition, loyalty and encouragement, great smile, and his laughter. The grandkids and great grandkids all loved their "Great Papa".
Jacob is survived by his two daughters; Gina (Glenn) Brown of Fleming Island, Florida and Pamela Monroe of Portland, OR; one son, Craig (Denise) Monroe of Shreveport, LA. He also is survived by 5 grandchildren, Justin Panneck of Portland, OR, Brook (Nellie) Panneck of Denver, CO, Lindsey (Chad) Eason of Fleming Island, FL, Jacob (Kate) Davison of Portland, OR, and Lauren Monroe of New Orleans, LA. And 5 great grandchildren, Shepherd, Rauly Marie, and Lillie Anna Eason of Fleming Island, FL; Callie Panneck of Dallas, TX; Zuma Panneck of Portland, OR; Amelia and Oliver Davison of Portland, OR. He is survived by his sister, Patsy (Bob) Sweeden of Dallas, Texas.
The family would like to thank Regional Hospice for their passionate care and a thank you to all those who reached out to him during his illness.
A Memorial Service is to be held at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander, AR at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 12, 2019. All are welcome.
