LION BOB NOLTER
Bob Nolter originally from MacPhees Corner returned to the Shubenacadie area in 1995. He had recently retired from a career with Nortel (Northern Telecom) in Brantford Ontario where he had worked after graduating high school at Hants East Rural High and DeVry Tech as electronic technician. Bob had been an active member of the Brampton Lions Club since 1982. There he served in many capacities including Club President. Bob was involved in many initiatives of this club including the initial work carried out preparing the site for the Canine Vision Facility in Oakville Ontario in 1983. This facility was initially renown for training seeing eye dogs which were provided to the blind. This facility is now named Lions Foundation Of Canada Dog Guides (www.dogguides.com) and supplies guide dogs throughout Canada for Vision Impairment, Autism Assistance, Special Skills, Hearing Ear and Seizure Response. Shortly after moving back to the Shubenacadie area in 1995 Bob transferred his Lions Membership to the Shubenacadie Lions Club. Bob, true to form, became very active in the Shubenacadie Lions many activities, serving two terms as Club President (King Lion), and Treasurer for at least the last ten years. He soon volunteered in other community organizations. He was a long time member of the Shubenacadie Legion and served on the Executive on a number of occasions. He had just offered to serve Branch 111 as Executive at Large for 2011. Bob was a member of the Board of Directors for the Shubenacadie Community Hall and Grounds Association and served as the chairman for three years and was still a member of the community hall oversight committee. Bob was admired for his excellence in the work he performed maintaining lawns and gardens, especially Preeper Hill and Brookside Cemeteries. When not busy at this he could, more often than not, be found selling tickets to raise funds for his community, be it for the Lions Club, the Legion or the Community Hall. Lion Bob will be sadly missed by all; as a valuable Lion, caring community member, dedicated volunteer and most of all… a dear friend
