Sikeston – Orville Edward Skalsky, age 98, passed away on May 10, 2019 at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, MO. He was born January 12, 1921 in Kewanee, MO., to the late Charles and Golda Haynes Skalsky. During WWII Orville served as a combat infantry man in the 96th Amphibious Infantry Division and participated in the invasion of Leyte and Okinawa. He retired from BMU after forty-seven and a half years of service, where he earned the honor of BMU employee of the year in 1984. On September 16, 1946 in Charleston, MO., he married Norma Jean Parker Skalsky, who preceded him in death on March 13, 1987. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Gale and Charles Ancell of Sikeston, MO.; one grandson, Charles David and his wife Yana Ancell; one granddaughter, Kristin Ancell; two great-grandchildren, Simon Peter Ancell and Benedict Joseph Ancell all of Nashville, TN.; a special friend, Mary Williams. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one son, Stephen Edward Skalsky; one brother, Harold Skalsky; two sisters, Grace Sturgeon and Millie Helms. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston, MO. with full military honors.
