

Phyllis was born on April 8, 1933, the only child of Van Allen and Minta B. Hubbard, in Chaffee, Missouri. She married James W. Pfefferkorn in 1953 who preceded her in death in 1962. Having lived out of state, she and daughter Laura returned to live in Sikeston with her parents following James’ death. She subsequently married Robert S. Colbert on December 21, 1968, who also preceded her in death on January 21, 2014.
Phyllis was a beauty queen in her youth in Chaffee, obtained an education degree from Southeast Missouri State University, and was a teacher and homemaker. She was very active in PEO and a member of the First United Methodist Church, along with her parents. Phyllis was a lover of classic and western television, an avid Dallas Cowboy's fan and had a unique appreciation for the beauty of owls. Phyllis was known for her calm and caring demeanor, and was genuinely one of the nicest people one could hope to know.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and John Keefer of Naperville, IL, two granddaughters, Courtney and Megan Keefer, her daughter Stephanie Colbert of Columbia, MO, her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Cary Colbert, also of Columbia, MO, two grandchildren, Charles and Sarah Jane Colbert, and a step grandson, Wilson Fitzgerald.
Visitation will be held on Saturday February 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Sikeston, Mo., Rev. Jennifer Moxley, officiating.
Interment will follow in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
