Wilma Marie Anastassopoulos – Wilma “Agapi” Anastassopoulos passed away peacefully at the age of 70 on April 19, 2018. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 12, 1947, the daughter of the late Marie Cornell.
Wilma moved to the Washington DC area for work after graduating high school. In 1968, she married Nicholas “Nick” Anastassopoulos and they were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this summer. They began their time together in Silver Spring, Maryland and later settled in Olney where they raised their son, Andreas Anastassopoulos, who was born in 1969. They spent many summers at their home in Ocean City, Maryland and opened their home to family and friends to come and enjoy the city with them. In retirement, Wilma also enjoyed spending time in their house in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Wilma worked at The Korth Companies for 30 years, retiring in 2014. Over the years, she also assisted her husband with running the family restaurant, “Papa Nicks”, in Derwood, Maryland. Wilma’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and “granddog”.
Wilma is survived by her husband – Nick, her son and his wife – Andreas and Kathryn, her three grandchildren - Nicole, Nikolas and Alexander, her brother – William “Bill” Cornell, and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Visitation is being held on Tuesday, April 24th from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland. Trisagion Prayer Service will begin at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, April 25th at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 701 Norwood Road, Silver Spring, Maryland. Interment will immediately follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
