She was born on Friday the 13th of February at the family farm on Sugar Hill in Harmony during a blizzard where the doctor arrived by sleigh. The daughter of C. Merle and Mary Paul Herrick, she was the oldest of 11 children. She graduated from HHS class of 1943 and moved to Walpole, Mass to work at Pondville Hospital. She had several careers throughout her life and always said “I never had a job I didn’t like”. She was always up to a learning challenge and retired from the Diocesan of Human Service Catholic Charities after many years of service helping her clients. After retirement she and Clayton enjoyed many years at their home in Ellenton, Florida and their travels throughout the USA and Canada.
She was the devoted wife for 37 years to Clayton S. Lombard and was the matriarch of a large and extended, unusually close family which she nurtured and always stressed the importance of. She was the oldest member of Oromocto First Nation, N.B., and was extremely proud of her Native American heritage. She was a past member of the Rebecca Lodge, The Pocahontas Companions of the Forest, The Red Hat Society, and a Charter Member of the Smithsonian National Museum of American Indians in Washington D.C. and attended the Harmony Baptist Church.
Her life lessons of love, faith and family will live on in her children; Sheilah Conceison, Lynda Rowell, Pamala Spence, David Wilbur and Annaliese Craig. She was a very special grandmother to Frank Melo, Heidi, Michelle and Eric Rowell, Hunter & Jordan Wilbur, Dakota, India, Montana and Chyna Stewart, and Kayla Morrison. She was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren; Skyler Rowell, Logan and Landon Rowell, Bella, Gianna & Jenelle Melo, Aubrey & Nora Wilbur and Grayson Morrison. Also survived by her treasured sister and best friend Ellen Dore of Harmony, her most devoted brother Irving (Hubby) Herrick & wife Linda of Harmony and her loving sister Marion Dangelo of Franklin, Mass. She was predeceased by her brothers; Vernal, Francis, Ernest and Harland Herrick, and her beloved daughter Laurie May Wilbur Stewart and dear grandson Brendon Morrison. Dottie was also the widow of William H. Spence, Jr. and Merle S. Wilbur.
She was loved by her many nieces and nephews and cousins who were very special to her, along with dear friend Ruthie Post of Cambridge, ME, the Lombard children and grandchildren and many wonderful friends.We would like to thank Dr. Tim Malyk and the wonderful nurses that cared for our mother.
The family will receive family and friends at the Harmony Baptist Church on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., funeral service at noon officiated by Pastor Robert Young. Burial to follow at Sugar Hill Cemetery in Harmony.
